Coaching girls in basketball is a blast. When you coach boys you run into a majority of them who think they know basketball by what they watch on TV when the NBA plays. That couldn’t be further from the truth.
With boys you typically have to wean them off of the NBA style play and back into real basketball. With girls you don’t have to spend time doing that.
St. Louis University announced that they hired Yeshimbra “Shimmy” Gray to coach their basketball team. Usually this would slip under the radar, but look at what St. Louis University has had to deal with lately concerning their women’s basketball program:
Generated a total of $10, 574 in ticket revenue.
Averaged 508 fans a game.
Record of 4-23.
How horrible are those statistics? Pretty awful.
You probably know more than 508 people and believe me, you could probably raise $10,574 in a season to have people come watch you shovel dirt.
Good luck to Shimmy. I think she’s going to do very well given her background.
