Later this year the NFL will begin talking with the NFL Player’s Union about upgrading their testing program to International Olympic Committee levels. NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said, ” Since the IOC has made its standards tougher, this was done to stay in line with it.”
The NFL used to have a joke drug program, but that changed in 15 years ago. The NFL toughened up their drug testing programs and have led all major professional leagues in testing. This has led to a scandal free existence and profitability all around.
Gene Upshaw, the leader of the NFL Player’s Union, has long recommended tougher testing programs for players. This is a commitment unmatched by any other major professional sports league.
