The NCAA does some good work. They are really good at generating revenue. I’m not so sure they do a very good job of providing for their players, so when the NCAA shows up and says, “We’re here to help,” run away.
The latest incident involved Bradley University and their team name of Braves. The NCAA actually commended Bradley for dropping the logo and mascot for the Braves 10 years ago. Now, they’re lambasting them for keeping the name. The simple name.
Bradley made some good points in telling the NCAA that the name now means courage and bravery. They also pointed out that the NCAA is being hypocritical as they have allowed eight schools to continue using the name Warriors. What did those eight schools do? They quit using the logo and mascot.
Ugh.
The NCAA will give you a waiver if you get the indians, native american, indigenous tribe to sign off on it. That what the Florida State Seminoles, Central Michigan Chippewas and Utah Utes did. But who did you turn to for Braves?
I am sure there is a native american, indian group willing to sell their name for some money. It’s worked for the casinos.
