JUAN PIERRE OF FLORIDA MARLINS ENDS 299 GAME STREAK – RIPKIN POPS THE CORK

In a blow to fantasy baseball team owners everywhere, Juan Pierre was held out of today’s game against Washington. This span of 299 games lasted 1,700 innings or so.

Of course, Pierre starting 3 for 16 had nothing to do with this according to Jack McKeon.

McKeon said:

Let’s have him for the whole season. … He wants to play, but we want him for the whole year. We’ve got a good ballclub. We’ll start giving a few of these guys a day off.

Um, sure.

Ripken’s record of playing every inning from 1983 to 1986 remains safe.
