GAME ON! THE NFL IS CALLED BEFORE THE HOUSE GOVERNMENT REFORM COMMITTEE

In what was expected, the House Government Reform Committee has formally notified the NFL that they will begin hearings on April 27, 2005 at 10:00am ET.

The NFL should be prepared as they saw the idiocy that MLB brought. The people invited as witnesses include:

  • Paul Tagliabue, Commissioner, National Football League
  • Harold Henderson, Executive Vice President, Labor Relations, National Football League
  • Gene Upshaw, Executive Director, National Football League Players Association

I think it’s telling that no players have been invited.

One thing I think we can expect are parents and high school athletes showing up:

The Committee said:

A public review of the NFL’s strategy for combating steroid use marks the next step in our investigation. Examining the effectiveness of the NFL’s policy is a key part of understanding why 500,000 high school students today have tried steroids.

The NFL hasn’t had a public comment on this yet.
