Fantasy Baseball Breakout Players – Tom Verducci Plays Prophet

The time is upon us for Fantasy Baseball and we all have our own super secret list of those we think will become the breakout players of the year. Tom Verducci of SI.COM has his list. Does it match your fantasy baseball breakout players?

Brandon McCarthy tops his list. McCarthy is slated to start for the Chicago White Sox this year.

The folks who have seen him closeup attribute his success to his pitch variety and velocity. He is expected to lead the team in strikeouts as he did last year in the minor leagues.

I didn’t have him on my list of fantasy baseball breakout players.

AJ Burnett is the next player on his list. AJ Burnett should be back from his Tommy John surgery, so all should be well. What I like about him is his ability to locate his pitches. He’s been known as a fireballer, but I think his location has become his calling card.

I had him on my list of fantasy baseball breakout players.

The next players are ok, but I think he’s really stretching it:

  • Felix Hernandez, RHP, Mariners
  • Casey Kotchman, 1B, Angels

All I can say is ho hum to those guys.

Now, the next two are interesting:

Noah Lowry a pitcher for the Giants was unbeaten last year. I like his delivery and his ability to come inside.

I had him on my fantasy baseball breakout players.

Chan Ho Park is also listed by Tom. What? A breakout year is one you don’t expect and I think everyone knows Chan’s the biggest free agent signing bust since, well, ever.

He also mentions Andy Marte, INF-OF, Braves.
