What are pitot tubes used for

The pitot-static tube is used for velocity measurement in heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems, and in the process control industry.

It is also used for the measurement of velocity of airborne vehicles, aircraft, missiles, and so on, where the higher speeds and the requirement for aerodynamic information make the pitot ideal.

Considerable use is found in research and development where clusters or rakes are often fitted to rigs, to test pumps, turbines and compressors.
