- 1 cup quick-cooking rice
- 1 package (10 ozs) frozen French-cut green beans
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1 tablespoon oil or fat
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 cup flour
- 1 can (101/2 ozs) beef bouillon or consomme
- 3/4 cup water
- 1 cup shredded cheese food or Cheddar cheese
Cook rice according to directions on package. Cook beans according to directions on package, until barely done.
Pan-fry onion in oil for 1 minute in a skillet. Add beef and cook and stir until pink color disappears. Add garlic salt, salt, and Worcestershire sauce and stir to blend. Sprinkle flour over meat and stir to combine. Add bouillon and water. Cook until thickened, stirring constantly.
In a 2-quart casserole place first the beans, then the rice, and then the creamed hamburger. Top with the shredded cheese. Bake in a moderate oven (350F) 30 minutes, or until bubbly. Serve hot.
Yield: 6 to 8 servings.
