Treating aching feet and relief

Foot pain has many causes. One of the commonest is the “overuse syndrome” resulting from unaccustomed walking or standing. Resting is one solution, and rolling the feet onto their outer edges at intervals may prevent aches caused by standing. Choosing shoes for comfort rather than fashion helps too. Shoes should cushion the feet, support the arches, and allow toes space.

Recurrent aches can often be traced to fallen arches. Orthotics (arch supports) help; buy them only after examination and prescription by your physician. Alternating hot and cold foot baths and resting the feet may bring temporary relief.

Insensitivity, discoloration, or persistent pain or swelling may warn of diabetes or other disorders. Seek medical care.
