- 2 pounds boneless beef sirloin steak, cut into three-quarter-inch pieces
- Salt and pepper
- Flour
- 1/2 cup oil or fat
- 3 medium onions, sliced
- 1 clove garlic, chopped fine
- 2 teaspoons dry mustard
- 1 cup catsup
- 1 cup water
Sprinkle meat with salt and pepper. Dip pieces in flour and brown in hot oil in a large skillet. As the meat browns, transfer it to a 2-quart casserole.
Add onions and garlic to drippings in skillet. Stir and cook about 3 minutes. Combine mustard, catsup, and water and pour over onions. Stir and heat. Pour over the meat in casserole. Cover with lid or foil and bake in a moderate oven (350F) 45 minutes. Serve hot.
Yield: 8 to 10 servings.
