- 4 cups sliced apples (6 tart apples)
- 1/4 stick (2 tbs) butter or margarine, melted
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1 unbaked 9-inch pastry shell
- 1/2 cup brown sugar (packed)
- 1/4 cup flour
- 1/2 stick (1/4 cup) butter or margarine
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts
Mix apples with the 1/4 stick melted butter. Combine granulated sugar, nutmeg, cinnamon, and salt and add to apples; mix to blend. (If apples are not tart add 1 tablespoon lemon juice.) Arrange in unbaked 9-inch pastry shell.
Combine brown sugar, flour, 1/2 stick butter, and nuts and mix until crumbly; sprinkle evenly over apples. Bake in a moderate oven (375F) about 50 minutes, or until apples are tender. Serve warm or cold. Yield: 6 servings.
