Wearing them safely. A hairpiece may be worn as a convenience, to conceal hair loss, or to change one’s hairstyle temporarily. The best are made of finely textured human hair, but they are expensive and difficult to care for. Wigs of coarser hair are less expensive. A goodlooking synthetic wig costs even less and is easier to maintain.
The wearing of a poorly ventilated hairpiece will cause perspiration and oils to build up and can foster bacterial growth and scaling. It’s best to wear a hairpiece for as short a time as possible and leave a day between wearings if it is not embarrassing to do so.
If you wear a wig or toupee, wash and condition your hair or scalp daily. Using a proper wig cleaner, keep your hairpiece scrupulously clean.
