What to do or not do about these unsightly growths
Warts are caused by viruses. Moderately contagious by contact, they usually appear on hands, feet, or face. Plantar warts grow on the soles of the feet, where body weight forces them inward; they can be very painful. Anal-genital warts afflict either men or women; they may become secondarily infected with bacteria and are not necessarily contracted venereally.
Most warts, especially in children, disappear in time. If one persists or is painful, if they multiply. or if they are in the genital area or close to a fingernail, see a dermatologist.
He may prescribe medication, surgical removal, cauterization, or freezing the wart. Never try to remove one yourself.
