- 2 tablespoons butter or margarine
- 1 1/2 tablespoons flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- 1/8 teaspoon marjoram (optional)
- 2 cups milk
- 1 cup shredded cheese food or Cheddar cheese
- 4 cups (1 qt) thinly sliced pared raw potatoes
Melt butter in a saucepan or skillet. Add flour, stir to blend. Add salt and pepper, marjoram, and milk; cook and stir until milk is thickened slightly. Add cheese and stir until melted. Remove from heat.
Place potatoes in a 1 1/2 quart casserole. Add hot cheese sauce. Sprinkle with paprika. Cover tightly with lid or aluminum foil. Bake in a moderate oven (350°F) 30 minutes. Remove cover and bake 30 minutes longer, or until potatoes are fork tender. Serve hot
