Easy Sour Milk Griddle Cakes Recipe
Ingredients for 18 Cakes
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- tablespoon sugar
- egg, slightly beaten
- 2 1/4 cups sour milk or buttermilk
- tablespoon shortening, melted
Preparation
Mix and sift dry ingredients. In a separate bowl, combine slightly beaten egg and milk, and stir into dry ingredients, stirring only until smooth. Do not overbeat. Stir in melted shortening. Pour batter from tip of spoon onto hot, ungreased griddle.
Bake, turning each cake when it is puffed up, full of bubbles, cooked on the edges and browned on the underside. Turn only once, and continue cooking until other side is evenly browned. Serve immediately on warm plate.
